OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — A new entertainment district may be coming to the Lake, with construction beginning as early as next summer.
The development was announced by developer Kent Nixon at the Thursday, Oct. 17 Real Estate Symposium held at Osage National Golf Resort. Nixon said the district would be built in a cove on the west side of the Grand Glaize Bridge in Osage Beach, accessible via the Jeffries Road exit on Highway 54. The district, named Towne Harbour, would be visible from the highway, he said.
Entertainment, lodging, shopping
A boardwalk would wrap around the entire cove, connecting all the waterfront establishments, Nixon explained. A hotel would sit at the very back of the cove, and an entertainment venue would also be included as a pivotal part of the development. Rooftop gardens on some of the buildings would offer unique vistas across the Lake.
Towne Harbour could be a "game changer" at the Lake of the Ozarks, Nixon hinted, pointing to the weaknesses latent in the area's seasonal population.
"The Lake needs to be a year-round place," he said, pointing to the specific challenges to businesses in a seasonal environment. "The Lake needs to work very hard at increasing the static population here so the commercial segment doesn't have to rely on seven to eight months of revenue.
"Interestingly, before Nixon's announcement, condominium developer Steve Redford spoke to the crowd about the Lake's need for an entertainment venue to add to the area's draw. "You need a destination retail center here… food and entertainment," he said.
Nixon's development team has plenty of hurdles to clear before breaking ground in Osage Beach, but the air Thursday evening was full of anticipation that Towne Harbour may be what many residents and visitors at the Lake have been hoping to see for a long time.
