Raining Ducks This Weekend At Bagnell Dam
LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will fall from the sky at the Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday, Aug. 1 and "race" to win big prizes during the 7th Annual Great Bagnell Dam Duck Drop presented by Bank Star.
In this distinctive event at Bagnell Dam, spectators "adopt a duck" (purchase numbered tickets) and then the familiar bathtub toys (with numbers corresponding to tickets) are unleashed from the air via helicopter to splash down into the Osage River. The ducks "race" to the finish line. The first duck to cross the finish line earns a lucky patron the grand prize of $5,000. Consolation prizes include $1,000 for second place and several Lake-area shopping cards for other finishers. The event also features live music and entertainment, a Family Fun Zone and a variety of delicious food for sale.
The fun begins on Friday, July 31 with the "quackiest golf tournament at the Lake," held at The Cove course at The Lodge of Four Seasons. The third annual Duck Drop Golf Tournament, a quirky four-person scramble, features over-sized cups as well as regulation-sized cups, randomly placed holes, duck-themed hazards and more. Tournament registration begins at 7 a.m. on Friday, followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. There will be entertaining contests throughout the tournament, including a long-putt contest for $5,000, a hole-in-one contest to win a new 2014 Jeep Wrangler and two randomly drawn participants will have the chance at a $1 million golf shot.
Saturday's activities kick off at 10 a.m. with the opening of the Family Fun Zone at the Dam Bait Shop and Campground in Lake Ozark. The Family Fun Zone features a live deejay, pony rides, bounce houses, fun games and prizes, face painting, dance and martial arts demonstrations and lots of great food.
At noon on Saturday, the Duck Drop helicopter will arrive to carry the ducks high into the sky before releasing them into the river below where they will meander to the finish line. Winners of the Duck Race will be announced at the Family Fun Zone at 1 p.m.
Proceeds from the Duck Drop and Family Fun Zone benefit the Kiwanis Club of Ozark Coast and its many organizations, including Kids Harbor, Citizens Against Domestic Violence, Hope House Food Pantry, Lake Area Big Brothers and Big Sisters and more.
