The Spring Harbor Hop, traditionally is held the first Saturday of May, which is typically “Derby Day,” as well. The Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitor Bureau sponsors the both the Spring Harbor Hop as well as the Fall Harbor Hop held the second Saturday in October. Other sponsors include the Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association and waterfront Restaurants.

The Harbor Hop is a boating event in which participants “Hop” from and to waterfront restaurants and marinas to draw playing cards in order to build a winning poker hand to become eligible to win prizes. Enter the Harbor Hop by stopping at any of the checkpoints. To obtain a hand, sign up and pay an optional $20 donation (per seven-card hand). A player may enter more than once.

The first card is drawn at the checkpoint where the hand is purchased; six additional cards are obtained by "hopping" to six more checkpoints drawing one card, per hand, at each location. The hand is complete when the seventh card is drawn. An optional eighth bonus card can be drawn for an additional $5. The completed hand is turned in at the checkpoint where the seventh card is drawn. To qualify, a hand must be turned in by 7 p.m., the day of Harbor Hop. Winners will be notified by mail. Prizes are based on entry donations.

The Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitor Bureau will retain 60 percent of proceeds for administering the program and promoting tourism to the Lake of the Ozarks. Forty percent of the proceeds will be paid to the participants in the form of gift certificates. The method of allocating prizes will be as follows: first place, 10 percent; second place, 9 percent; third place, 8 percent; fourth place, 7 percent; fifth through tenth places, 5 percent each; four worst hands, 4 percent each; and random drawing for 10 hands, 2 percent each. All ties will share the allocated percentage for the placing. In addition to the regular prize winners, the top hand in each section will be recognized.

To be eligible to be a section winner, a player must draw all seven cards within one of the four following sections: Section I - Gravois Arm; Section II - begins at the Dam; Section III - begins at the 13-mile marker; and Section IV - begins at the 28.5-mile marker.
